I started this blog after having a conversation with my aunt in which I halfway joked that I was going to read the entire Bible.  In actuality, I have been telling myself I was going to do that for at least 10 or 15 years now, but I have a major talent for procrastination.  I was raised as a Methodist and attended Christian school from preschool through 6th grade, and remained Christian until I was about 18 or so.  I then decided that it no longer made sense to me, so I have been basically agnostic (with a lean towards atheism) since that time.

But even when I was Christian, I never read The Bible the whole way through.  It seems that very few people actually do this, and we really should read the thing before making these life decisions about our religion, right?  So now I’m finally reading it.  And I plan to write a review of every book.  I’m trying to be as objective as I possibly can, and since I never paid much attention in Sunday School/elementary, maybe my lack of memory will help my objectivity.  Let’s see how long I can stick with this.

p.s. For a bit of extra background, these are two blog posts on my old blog which basically led me into creating this blog:

Faith vs. Ambiguity

Do the Right Thing

  1. IDK if you are still actually on this “read the Bible” journey, but I wanted to say thanks and commend you. I am a protestant minister who has read the Bible extensively, but I like your approach. It’s accessible, humorous, and just irreverent enough to convey the story without splitting hairs. I labor to teach the young people in my church the Bible in essentially the same way you share it here. Kudos, and best of luck on your faith journey; wherever it may take you.

    • Awesome thank you so much Scott for the feedback! I always wonder if anyone out there is reading these other than a couple of my friends and family members hahah. I’ve been trying to approach this thing just like any newbie kinda taking it all in and reacting naturally, and yeah being irreverent without hopefully sounding *too* cynical. I probably don’t always accomplish that goal but hopefully more often than not hahah. And I am indeed still going with it, I’m reading the Gospel of John now. 🙂 I go in fits and spurts with this thing depending on how busy life gets lol. Cheers and thanks again for checking it out!
